Visit to European Parliament for Aspiring Young Women Leaders

Following lots of interest in the European Parliament, Gina Dowding Green MEP for North West England, is organising a visit to Brussels for young women in the North West. This opportunity is available to women between the ages of 18 and 25 who or would like to develop a leadership role in their community. Participants must be EU citizens (this includes UK citizens) and resident in the North West of England

Details of the visit and how to apply

The Visit

The visit will take place from Monday 30th September to Wednesday 2nd October 2019; travelling to Brussels on Monday, returning on Wednesday with a full day’s programme in the European Parliament on Tuesday. Participants will visit the Parliament building and learn about the working of the parliament and the work of MEPs. They will also have the opportunity to meet Gina Dowding MEP and young female MEPS who will share their experiences of leadership from a feminist perspective. There will be a workshop on women in leadership led by inspirational young women leaders in the Green Party.

Accommodation

The accommodation has been booked and paid for at Brxxxl5_City_Centre_Hostel. Please note that the beds are in 4 or 5-bed dormitory rooms.

Subsistence

You will need money in Brussels to pay for reasonable subsistence (food and drink, no alcohol). If you keep the receipts, you will be reimbursed for up to 50€. 

Documentation

You will need a valid passport with an expiry date which extends at least three months beyond your departure date from Brussels (i.e. 2nd January 2020). You will also need your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). You may wish to take out private travel insurance. 

Travel

We will book your travel on Eurostar for the outward and return trip from London St Pancras to Brussels Midi. You will be responsible for arranging your own travel to and from London St Pancras. On receipt of your tickets, travel will be reimbursed for coach travel and London Underground. Those from Lancaster and further North will be reimbursed for second class train fare on the assumption that you will use a 16-25 railcard.

As soon as we have booked the Eurostar travel, we will confirm the exact time of departure from London on 30th September and the arrival from Brussels in London on Wednesday 2nd October so that you can book your travel. On Monday, we aim to leave London mid to late afternoon, to give everyone time to travel down from the North West.  Similarly, on Wednesday, we aim to arrive back in London by midday to give you time to head back up North.
